MAVL R2 - G9 QAS Pirates v Volleyball WA

 

Set 1
Pirates - Foster, White, Mead, Moeller, Smiechowski, Irwin, Mayfield (L)
WA - Hagu, Prindiville, Simmonds, Lewington, Troy, Luff, Farris (L)

 Last game for Pirates this round and they will be looking to extend their winning streak out to 7 games. Impressive defense from the Queenslanders has given them a 5-1 lead in the first set. The teams exchange side out points until Foster goes back to serve for the Pirates, riffeling off a massive jump serve, giving QLD a 8-3 lead, as WA take a time out.

 Two points to WA through Lewingtons line kill and Shane Troy's massive block on Foster. A huge rally with 6 crosses of the net but the last tip from the Pirates comes up short and WA score another point 6-9. Prindiville faces the Pirates triple block and smartly tips it off the top of their fingers. The next one is not so lucky as he hits it too hard straight into the Pirates block who shut it out. Pirates seizing control 15-7. WA call their second time out.

Back on court and a slight improvement from WA as they add three more points to their score taking it to 10. Pirates player Kosma Smiechowski falls awkwardly from the block looks to be a problem with his knee, he is replaced by Osama El- Mezin. Pirates still infront 17-10.

Big back row kill from Prindiville. Simmonds sends one down off Foster's shoulder and WA are pumped.  Closing the gap they now trail 16-19. tough serve from Hague puts pressure on the pass forcing Moeller to set the middle ball with the WA block waiting to reject it. Spike error from Irwin gives WA another point, now to within one point trailing 19-20. Time out Pirates.

Prindiville block levels the scores at 20 all, but Irwin side out for the Pirates, hitting the ball off the side of the blockers arms. Scrambling defence from Farris as he dives through the crowd to save a ball but he can't control it. Pirates step away with the score 22-21. Foster gets another kill to take the Pirates to 23-21. The double block from Meid and El- Mezin brings up set points for the Pirates. A Simmonds kill saves the set point and Troy is at the net to kill the overpass. WA get to 23 points. Foster gets the smallest of touches off the block to wrap up the set for the Pirates 25-23.

Set 2
Pirates - Foster, White, Mead, Moeller, El- Mezin, Irwin, Mayfield (L)
WA - Hagu, Prindiville, Simmonds, Lewington, Troy, Luff, Farris (L)

WA start the set fired up, ready to fight back after narrowly losing the last set. Tough serves from WA put pressure on Irwin in the passing line up giving WA a 6-4 lead. Pirates side out and Irwin the front court swips the ball off Troy's block and the game is level again at 6 all. Moeller uses some soccer skills kicking the ball up off a block rebound but WA quickly kill the point in transition. Three errors from the Pirates, two in defence and one in attack and WA are up 10-7, forcing QLD to call a time out.

The time out has worked in QLD favour and got them to re- focus with a few big plays from QLD to bring the scores level at 11 all. Now WA make the errors giving an extra 2 points to QLD, score is 13-11 and WA take a time out. QLD dominate the net with Irwin rejecting Prindiville spike and El-Mezin hitting the ball off Hague's shoulder. QLD up 15-13.

Subsitution for WA, Ruggiero replaces Hague as the setter. WA still behind 14-16. Moelller lucky in the right position icks up the spike cover off his elbow. WA are fighting back, Simmonds aces Irwin and now there is a one point difference. WA serving 17-18. The set to Meid is short on the inside and he drills it straight into the WA block, scores are level 18 all. QLD call for a time out.

The rocket McCaskil put up QLD during the time out has seemed to have worked as the team is more focused back on court and they side out through Brendan White. With the Piraites out to a lead 21-19, WA now use there second time out. Hague comes back into the game for WA. QLD desperately try to keep the ball alive with some quick reflexes but can't keep the ball alive. WA are firing up and another Prindiville kill levels the score at 22-22. Lewington subs back into the game for Luff. Neither team is giving an inch, as both teams are desperate to take the set. At 24 all, Lewington just sneaks the ball down the line into the Pirates court to bring up set point for WA. Which is lost through Prindiville service error. Pat Mead  wins the jouse at the net and now QLD have set point. Not giving up WA side out again and Lewington gets a kill to give the set point back to WA, 28-27. Lewington roofs Fosters hit to give WA the set 29-27 and level the scores to one set all.

Set 3

WA - Hagu, Prindiville, Simmonds, Lewington, Troy, Wilson, Farris (L)

 Things are getting hot here in the gym at the AIS as play is delayed after each play to mop up the sweat, which shows both sides aredesperate in their defence. QLD have made a change putting Foster through the middle and bringin Ivers on as the opposite and they surging forward with the game currently up 10-5, as WA call for a time out.

WA need to string some consistent points together because at the moment they are very up and down with their ball control. They find themselves still trailing by 4 points down 10-14 as coach Pike calls for his second time out. He will be asking them to do the simple things well and communicate in defence. Back on court the time out has worked in their favour as QLD now start to have brain explosions as unforced errors are giving easy points to WA. Although QLD is still in the lead, they still need to sharpen up in order to keep WA out of this set.

Nice swing from Ivers in the back court, gets the Pirates to 22 points, WA still on the hunt only trailing by 3 at 19 points. Lewington with the pike attack from the back court sends it high and long out the back and Pirates now have 23 points. The setters tip from Moeller brings up set point for QLD at 24-20, and Irwin finishes it off with a huge hit deep into the WA court, with libero Farris gets it up but it hits the roof and is called out. QLd take the set 25-20.

Set 4
Pirates - Foster, White, Mead, Bell, Ivers, Irwin, Mayfield (L)
WA - Hagu, Prindiville, Simmonds, Lewington, Troy, Wilson, Farris (L)

Both teams have started out firing in the fourth set. The game has been point for point all the way with no team getting a significant advantage until at 7 all, the Pirates edge the score line further away from WA up 10-7 before WA can win a point.  Pirates back line defence is slipping as WA attack becomes more powerful and their confidence grows, bringing them back in the game at 13-12.
Time out Pirates at 16-17. Moeller substitutes in for Bell.

Prindiville puts the ball through the defence hands to take the lead 18-17. Hague sets for Prindiville on the outside WA 19-17. Foster with a massive block on Prinvdiville 20-18. WA starting to take control of this foruth set leading 21-18. Off Lewington's hands and out 21-19. Time out Pirates.

 The back set from Hague to Simmonds is pitch perfect and Simmonds finds the back line 22-19 WA. Simmonds chases the ball down and a net touch is called against Pirates for WA to go forward 23-19.
Ivers takes the court for El-Mezin.
Pat Mead from the outside fires one at Prindiville's feet, 23-21 Pirates. Pat Mead again from position 4 is getting Pirates back into this game, trailing by one 23-22.
Time out called by WA.
Simmonds fires the ball down the line and takes the Pirates hands with it and takes them to set point 24-22. Moeller and White with a massive double block to save set point 23-24. Simmonds hits the ball into the net to tie the scores at 24 all. Pirates slowly pulling themselves back into this set. Lewington on the outside finds the seam for another set point for WA 25-24. Whie with a quik ball behind manages to find a piece of the line and levels the score at 25 all. Mead sends the ball into the roof to bring up the fourth set point 26-25 WA. Handling errors from Simmonds saves another set point for Pirates. 26-26. Ivers and Foster team up for the kill block, giving Pirates second match point 27-26.Hauge and Mead jouse at the net . Pirates take the set 28-26 and the match 3:1.
