MAVL R3 - G10 Uni Blues v Volleyball WA

Set 1
WA - Hague, Troy, Lewington, Prindiville, Simmonds, Luff, Farriss (L)
Blues - Whitburn, Morley, Bhachi, Stevens, Weimann, Campbell, Helfrich (L)

Get set for what should be a block buster of a game.  WA need to win this for any chance to make the final four.  And a win to the Blues gaurantees their inclusion in the finals. Get your calculators out and keep track of the points. As we join the action the Blues are up 8-5 as WA use their first time out of the set.

The Blues are fired up for this game.  Whitburn serves an ace deep into WA's back court and a run of 3 points to WA's 1 gets them to a 6 point difference, 12-6 as WA use their second time out early in this set.

Blues are not letting up in this game.  Extending their lead out to 7 point, now 17-10 as WA are making too many simple errors in their attack.  Maybe the pressure of having to win is getting to them.  There is still a good crowd here to watch the WA team, but they need to get involved and lift their team like last night.  Stevens serves a huge ace and the Blues have a commanding lead 20-10 before Simmonds gets the side out for WA.

Coach Darrin Pike is telling his players to take it one point at a time, as Lewington hits the combo ball out again.  Lewington gets the up in defence and Hague hesitates and then both he and Simmonds collide to get the second touch up, but Prindiville puts it away for a winner.  Bad pass tight to the net and Hague can't save it bring up set point fot the Blues, 24-13.  Bhachi tips it over and its just out, but he is quick to make up for it on the next play and spanks it deep into the court for the kill.  Blues take the set 25-14.

Set 2
WA - Hague, Troy, Lewington, Prindiville, Simmonds, Wilson, Farriss (L)
Blues - Whitburn, Morley, Bhachi, Stevens, Weimann, Campbell, Helfrich (L)

Big defensive up from Farriss on the WA is making for some entertaining volleyball and get the crowd involved.  It is also keeping the scores level at 6-6 before Campbell gets the roof block to give the Blues the point advantage.  Simmonds from position 2 hits it clearly over the Blues block into court.  WA have lifted their game and are not so nervous, and are playing well.  Will it be enough to get them across the line?

Bhachi is a clear stand out in this set, hitting and blocking his way across the front court.  Luff replace Troy for WA and immediately comes up with the stuff block on Stevens.  Scores are even at 10-10.  Joust at the net and Blues come up the winners.  But Simmonds has plenty of time to look at the WA block as he hits it through them easily.  And ace to captain Prindiville gets WA to 12-11, and Luff with the quick hit that Bhachi can't defend and WA are up 13-11 as the Blues take a time out.

Valena replaces Campbell for the Blues.  Morley easily reads the X play from WA and shuts down Lewington on the metre ball.  Scores are level 14-14.  Tough serve from Weimann puts the WA passers under pressure and Hague has to dive off court to get the second touch and he can't control it.  Wilson tips into the middle of the court and Blues all dive for it but miss it altogether.  Level again 15-15.  Lewington hits a massive spike down the line that the crowd just loves.  Ace to Simmonds and WA are up again 17-15.

Two service aces to Lewington and the Blues look to be in trouble.  WA out to a 21-16 lead before Morley sides out with the quick through the middle.  Campbell back in for the Blues.  Prindiville tools Stevens block and WA are pumped, 22-17.  Bhachi with the quick, turns it to his right and its wide of the court.  Nex play he does it again, but this time it's in.  Blues serving 18-23.  Prindiville misses the X play but a sneaky setters dumps from Hague on the next point brings up set point for WA, 24-19.  WA falter for 2 rallies, but then Prindiville comes good in the end and spanks the ball deep into 6 to wrap up the set 25-21.

Set 3
WA - Hague, Luff, Lewington, Prindiville, Simmonds, Wilson, Farriss (L)
Blues - Whitburn, Morley, Bhachi, Stevens, Weimann, Campbell, Helfrich (L)

WA playing with some guts and determination now, coming alive as the crowd cheers on.  The scores are evenly matched at 6-6 with Simmonds back to serve.  Campbell gets the side out hitting it off the late WA blockers for the kill.  Nice set from Hague out to 2 gives Lewington a one on one situation and he drills it down the line.  Nothing much between these two teams as its side out after side out play.

Troy replaces Wilson for WA and he is back to serve.  Good pressure from him and he gets a run of 4 points to take WA to 12-8 in front before the Blues side out.  WA are steaming on with this game and although the Blues have closed the gap, there are still too many errors costing them points.  WA are up in fron 17-15 now.

Shane Troy kills the quick attack for WA's 18th point.  Lewington back to serve and its an ACE.  WA 19-15.  Morely blocks Simmonds as he celebrates loudly on his way down.  Shanked pass from WA and there is another collision between Hague and Simmonds, but both are safe.  Blues are to within 2 points now, 17-19 as WA call for a time out.

Back on court and its a better show from the home side now as they are hungry for the set.  The attack errors from the Blues are helping them in this favour, and at 23-19 up, the Blues call for a time out.  Hague back to serve and its an ACE to bring up set point.  Stevens saves it for the Blues and Morely is back to serve, trailing 20-24.  Simmonds kills the ball and WA take the third set 25-20.

Set 4
WA - Hague, Luff, Lewington, Prindiville, Simmonds, Troy, Farriss (L)
Blues - Whitburn, Morley, Bhachi, Stevens, Weimann, Valena, Helfrich (L)

Its all tied up at the moment at 9-9. The teams are having a great battle, but the crowd are really getting behind their team, 11-9. Prindiville sends one down the line to go 12-11 up. Block for block, kill for kill its back to 13-12 WA. Stevens with a serving error to give the lead back to WA 14-13. The teams are siding out faster then you can say "siding out". 14-all. Valena & Weimann team up with Morley for the triple block. Time out WA at 14-16 down. Back to even, 16-16. Simmonds winds up and unleashes on Bhachi. Campbell comes for Valena and steps straight up to serve, Helfrich with a great up, but Prindiville finds the open back court, 18-18. Luff gets the ball off the blockers hands to go 20-19. Simmonds off the backset of Hague puts the ball away, 21-19 WA Hornets. Stevens pushes the ball wide, Hornets out to a four point lead, 23-19, Coach Shen calls time out. Bhachi hammers it down, 20-23. Rhodri Simmonds, that boy has UNLEASHED on Uni Blues to bring up four match points, 24-20. Service error, 24-21 WA. Time out WA.

Service error Stevens gives the match to WA 25-21 and 3 sets to 1.

But is it enough....a nervous wait now while we imput the scores to find out the final 4 placings.  Definates through will be the QAS Pirates and the AIS in first and second respectively.  But what about the Blues, WA and UTSSU....hang on folks we are just double checking now.

And the results are in.....the top 4 are;
