The finals may have been won, celebrations c

AVL 2007

The intensity and determination of the teams continued right to the end.  Despite a number of scheduled matches towards the end of the round, where ultimate top 4 positions were not at threat, no team gave anything away, fighting for every point.

JMS Volleyball Queensland, smarting from the loss of captain Kristen Jansen on Saturday morning, rallied late in the fourth set but were outclassed by the Centacare Adelaide Rangers winning in 4 sets (21-25, 25-14, 25-13, 25-22).

University Blues carried the memories of a Bronze medal defeat at the hands of UTS in 2006 with them this weekend.  The value of the home final and parochial supporters couldn't be under-estimated though.  Both teams displayed exceptional determination, athleticism and sheer guts attacking and defending everything. Uni Blues played to their strengths, used their depth of talent and claimed victory and the Gold in 2007, in 4 sets (26-24, 12-25, 25-20, 25-17).

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER 2007

Anna Maycock was announced the 2007 Most Valuable Player.  After each match in the 40 match season, the captains and coaches voted 3-2-1 on the best players in the opposition side.  Anna consistently polled highly as a standout player in all matches, gaining her the top spot in 2007, recognising her contribution to the team and influence on games.

The top five voted players were:

Anna Maycock, Centacare Adelaide Rangers
Natalie Frostick, UTS Sydney University
Rachelle Brammer, Western Australia
Kristen Jansen, JMS Volleyball Queensland
Rebecca Walter, University Blues

Congratulations to Anna for her stirling effort and to all of the other athletes who followed closely by her in leading their teams throughout the season.
